Implants
Zygomatic Implants Premium
Anchored in the cheekbone — the solution when the upper jaw can't hold a regular implant.
Severe upper jaw bone loss used to mean either a denture or a year of bone grafting before implants could be placed. Zygomatic implants change that: they anchor in the cheekbone (zygoma) instead of the missing maxillary bone, providing immediate stability for a fixed prosthesis.
This is a specialty procedure performed under IV sedation. The implants are 35–55mm long (vs 8–13mm for regular implants) and require precise 3D planning with CBCT. Dr. Inzunza is one of approximately 30 dentists in Mexico routinely placing zygomatic implants — most patients with this need have been told elsewhere they need bone grafting and have to wait 6–12 months. We can often complete the case in two visits.
Zygomatic implants are usually combined with two regular front implants (Quad Zygoma protocol or 2 zygoma + 2 anterior) to support a full-arch prosthesis. Per-implant cost: $4,500 per zygomatic + $995 per supporting standard implant. Total full-arch case typically $18,995–$24,995 — vs $40,000–$60,000 in the US.
Materials
Nobel Biocare TiUnite zygomatic implants — the original and most documented zygomatic system, used since 1998. Combined with standard Nobel anterior implants. Final prosthesis in zirconia or hybrid acrylic-titanium.
Frequently asked questions
Why would I need zygomatic implants?
When you've lost so much upper jaw bone (from years of denture wear, periodontal disease, or sinus issues) that no regular implant can be anchored. Common in patients who've worn full upper dentures for 10+ years.
Is this safer than bone grafting?
Different — zygomatic eliminates the 6–12 month waiting period and the risk of graft failure. Surgical technique is more demanding but recovery is similar.
Is anesthesia general or local?
We use IV sedation + local anesthesia. You're comfortable and aware but don't feel the procedure. Pure local works for some patients but most prefer sedation.
How long is the surgery?
3–4 hours for the full case (4 zygomatic + temporary prosthesis or 2 zygomatic + 2 anterior + temporary).
Can I get a fixed prosthesis the same day?
Yes. Zygomatic implants achieve immediate primary stability that allows attaching a fixed temporary prosthesis at the end of the surgical visit.
What is the success rate?
Published research shows 95–97% success at 10 years. Our internal rate over 50+ cases since 2018 is 96%.
