Zirconia crowns are CAD/CAM milled from a solid block of zirconium dioxide — the same material used in artificial joints. The flexural strength is 900–1200 MPa, more than 3× stronger than feldspathic porcelain. They\'re virtually impossible to break under normal bite force.
Aesthetically, modern multilayer zirconia (BruxZir Esthetic, Zirkonzahn Prettau) has translucent edges that mimic natural tooth enamel. Even the most picky front-tooth cases are now zirconia candidates.
Process: two visits over ~10 days, or one visit with Same-Day Dentistry. Per-crown pricing: $300 standard zirconia · $450 multilayer aesthetic zirconia · $550 same-day milled. US average: $1,200–$1,800.
